Deep Breath

Well hello again, world!

This morning I turned in my final paper for one of my classes and then took a big, deep, refreshing sigh of relief. The last two weeks have been a little insane. I won't bore you with the details...

Wait. Yes I will. After all, this is my blog. My internet web log. My place to gripe, moan, groan, complain and generally make all my narcissistic whims, thoughts and feelings known to who ever may care to read them. Read on if you care.

So much of the craziness of the last couple of weeks has been good stuff. Just lots of it. It is a strange thing to take two literature classes at once: I have been required to do something that I love (reading) way past the point of enjoyment.

Last Thursday I picked up Michelle and Nora, my college roommate and her almost one year old daughter, from O'hare. We had a fun day of watching the babies play and visiting a mother's favorite place: Target. We got pedi's and had a little college reunion with Becky and Meg at Lou Malnoti's--Michelle's favorite Chicago-style pizza joint.

Friday I dropped Shell off downtown, picked up Zach at work around noon, furiously packed up the car and took off for a busy weekend in Michigan.

It was a weekend of best friend reunions: I met up with my best high school (heck, middle school!) gal pals--Meghan, Marissa, and Andrea--for dinner and a night in a fancy hotel in downtown GR. We stayed up until 3am talking. It was just what I needed.

Saturday was Marissa's wedding/graduation party in the early afternoon and then out to Murray Lake for birthday celebrations in the evening. (By the way, I forgot my camera [gasp!] so I have no record of this weekend.)

Sunday we went to my cousin's wedding and then loaded Izey and all his stuff back in the car for the trip home.

I had class on Monday morning, Tuesday night, and Wednesday morning and in those three days I had to have three novels finished, a paper written, a presentation prepared, and an abstract for another paper completed.

For Isaac, it was the week of babysitters. He was babysat by 5 different people 6 different times in 7 days. Monday it was Emily during class, Wednesday morning it was Grace during class, Wednesday night it was Alana during a birthday dinner, Thursday night it was Grace during a movie with friends, Saturday it was Jake for a Venetian Night date for mom and dad. Lots of fun evenings out, but not lots of time to do homework.

Yesterday was my day to frantically write my 5-6 page final paper for my American Literature: Desperate Housewives class. I also had to watch the movie "Aliens." If you care to hear why "Aliens" has anything to do with desperate housewives, feel free to pick my brain. I now feel prepared to write a dissertation on it.

Due to my superhuman ability to procrastinate, I learned in college that when I'm writing a dense, scholarly paper on literature, it generally takes me one hour per page to write. That includes coming up with my topic, looking up passages and using the thesaurus 18 times per paragraph. (I heart thesaurus.com.) So I waited until I had roughly 5-6 hours left before bedtime to write my paper. Very reasonable...yeah right. So it was a stressful evening. But it's done now! and I think it was actually good.

So now I am taking more big sighs of relief and taking a nap for approximately as long as Isaac does. Ahhh.
