It's been a quiet and happy day today in the hospital.
Our roommate, a 16 year old boy who also had chest surgery, went home this morning. We spread out our stuff and it's nice to have a few feet of extra space and some quiet and privacy when the baby wants to sleep.
As for Ando, he had a chest x-ray early, which revealed the "best pictures yet" and got his chest tube out (again) around 10am. He perked right up and was even pulling up to stand in his crib!
We just took off all the really annoying leads that were stuck to his chest and toe and now the only line attached to him is his IV. The only reason that's still on is just in case we end up staying longer. He's eating and drinking now (finally!), so he doesn't need the fluids, and he's getting all his pain meds orally, but it's quite traumatic to have to put a new IV in, so we'd hate to take it out too soon. I will be so relieved when I can pick him up without getting tangled or worrrying about pulling on something.
We had another x-ray post-chest tube, so now we're just waiting for word that we can go home! I can't wait to get Anders out of this place and I'm itching to squeeze Izey to pieces. We've been telling him that we can come home as soon as Baby Anders gets better, and every night he asks Grammy Pammy or Nini, "Is Baby Anders getting better?" Soon, buddy! Very soon!
