Reading Rubbing Off

I love that some story-like language has found its way into the way Spike talks.  For example, recall that after his first day of school he told me, "I cried for a long time, but at last I didn't cry any more!"

More recently, once again he was upset but abruptly cheered up and told Zach, "Look, Dad, my face brightened!"

Today we were in the car as the sun was going down.  He was looking at a book in the back seat.  He said, "Mom, I saw a flashlight in the glove box earlier, and now darkness is falling over my book, so can I have it?"
