You may remember that as recently as September 24, Isaac did not know who Elmo was. I remember the date because I wrote a post about it. That fact is no longer true. He's only seen the show a handful of times since then, but for some reason, Elmo's name stuck. He also has a book with Elmo in it, so I'm sure that contributed to the name's place in his word repertoire.
A few weeks ago, I asked Isaac if he wanted to watch a show on TV. He ran to the living room excitedly hollering, "Tee bee! Tee bee!" It was the first time he had said it.
That night I jokingly confessed to Zach, "I think I'm a bad mom; Isaac already knows how to say 'TV.'" Zach's response? "What? Just because he knows how to say 'TV' before he knows how to say 'Jesus'?"
Hey!
My parents got Isaac the most adorable nativity play set from the Fisher Price Little People line. We set it up on the windowsill and he loves it. When you press down on the angel, it plays "Away in a Manger," so we hear that song about 65 times per day. He quickly learned the words "Jesus," "Mary," "Joseph," "angel," and "sing" as we played with the set. I'm still working on "manger" and "shepherd" and Zach taught him what a donkey says.
Mostly Isaac takes all the little people down and lines them up elsewhere. Sometimes he lines them back up on the windowsill. One day we found baby Jesus, Mary, Joseph, some shepherds and a donkey all lined up neatly on Zach's shoe rack in the closet.
So "TV" may have come first, but now he's got "Jesus" down. And I take solace in the fact that at least he learned "Jesus" before "Elmo" AND "Santa."
