The Mimi Fairy's Present

If you've ever babysat my kids, you've likely heard the list of "loveys" that Isaac currently sleeps with:  Baby, Cold Blankie, and Mimi. And after you heard that list, you probably heard me say with some embarrassment, "Yes, Isaac is three years old and he still sleeps with a pacifier."

(By the way... the reason we call a pacifier a "mimi" is because that's what my niece Nadia called it when she was a little toddler.  My side of the family has always called it a mimi since then.)

Well, a quick trip to the dentist office was all I needed to dig in my heels and insist that it was time for the Mimi Fairy to come.  Yes, Dr. F was foresaw orthodontic work in Spike's future if the mimi didn't go soon.  He also expressed concern that Spike's speech would be affected.  Yikes!

Now, the Mimi Fairy is a tiny sparkly fairy with a beautiful blue dress (Isaac's details) who comes while you are sleeping.  She takes your mimis and brings them to your new baby cousins who really need them.  She leaves you a big boy present that your baby brother is not allowed to play with.

However, there is one detail that Isaac didn't invent:  Momma has to buy the present that the Mimi Fairy leaves you.

Momma is on a very tight budget.  Momma never ever gets to buy toys for her kids -- she let's the grandparents do that.  Momma is also committed to nurturing her big boy's mind, or at least is attempting to avoid its over-saturation with violence and/or Spiderman.  So when Momma has a chance to browse the aisles of Target searching for a $20 toy that is going to make her big boy smarter and make him smile when he sees it in the morning, she spends a long, loooong time searching for just the right thing. Then she calls the Daddy and he tells her to relax, just pick something, and come home so they can go to bed.  So she picks this:

 Trios Building Set

And Momma and Spike are happy with Mimi Fairy's choice.  While Trios haven't taught Isaac to speak Mandarin or anything, I do think they encourage creativity, and good for that pre-math logical stuff, and can be played with in a gazillion ways.  We made this helicopter together:

Unfortunately, this helicopter is the one the boys were fighting over as mentioned in this post, so.... Isaac hasn't gotten to play with his Trios a few days.  Gah... sometimes it's just as hard for Mommas to lay down the law as it is for kids to follow it!

By the way... Getting rid of the mimi was much easier than I expected it to be.  Isaac asked for it each night for a few nights, but never cried about it.  However, I was right that once we took away the mimi he would never nap again.  It's been over a week and he has not napped once.  This lack of sleep for Spike and time away from Spike for Momma results in my desperate prayers for parenting support!

  1. I can so relate to the last paragraph of this post right now! This is exactly where we are at with Lukey boy, too. He hasn't napped (other than a couple RARE occasions) since we took his nukie away in July and most of the time, he doesn't even "rest" because he's too loud and wakes his napping brother. UGH! The days are ok, but I am desperately needing a Lukey break by 3-4 p.m. every day, which makes the "bewitching hours" even more difficult! I'll pray for you - if you pray for me! :)
