Zach and I were so overwhelmed last night when we were given probably the most amazing present we've ever received. Before Isaac was born, our friends and family got together and recorded 16 Lullabies for Isaac. Peter and Liz VerHage, Tim and Meghan Mosbo, and David, Josh, and Karen Danielson are all incredibly talented and musical people and made a beautiful album for our boy. It's so special! The Danielsons and Mosbos grew up singing together, and when I joined the family, it was one of the most significant ways we've bonded. Music has been central in our relationships and now we get to share that with Isaac. Here's what Liz wrote on the cover:
Dear Isaac,
As you grow to know each of these voices, we pray that this CD will remind you of the many people who deeply love you and are excited to be part of your life. Welcome to the wonderful world of music! Welcome to your family, and to friends who love you like family. Welcome to a rich heritage of song, word, faith, fun, learning, and love. Welcome to the exhilarating experience of being touched, changed, challenged and formed by music - and by singing to music with people who love you.
This CD won't teach you all about perfect harmonies or 'performance quality' arrangements. There might be dropped "t's" or a few notes that sound off; but think of this as a 'studio set' of voices that were gathered together to tell you that they love you. Listen carefully and you can almost picture us stading in your room, smiling, and softly singing to you in the language that many of us have shared for years together. Quite the gift! I heard that this was coming when the album was in production and I thought "Only these families could pull this off." Picture my family sitting in front of microphones (ok, picture everyone but Lisa and it's funnier) recording Twinkle, Twinkle Little Star. Jealousy. You guys should put one or two of the songs online, something that can't get you in trouble, copy-right wise, like Be Thou My Vision. Awesome present, he'll have that his whole life.
ReplyDeleteWow! What a blessed child little Issac is! We can't wait until he adds his mellifluous tenor, bass or baritone voice to the raucous, Thanksgiving version of the Halleluja Chorus! But in the mean time, we'll settle for some coos and cries.
