Spike Finds Toes (and other new developments)

We are learning new things about Spike every day. He has recently made a few dislikes known to us, his parents. For example, we now know that getting his picture taken in a photo studio is not his favorite activity. Last week we found out that when super excited ladies smile and dote too excessively, Izey Baby's bottom lip pops out. On Sunday we learned that a when a congregation of over 2,000 worships and claps in unison, the lip again makes an appearance as he squawks like a bird until taken into the relative quiet of the hallway. Today I learned that Isaac does not enjoy baba ganouj flavored breastmilk. It apparently makes him gassy and not likely to eat much unless given a bottle of milk formulated during the normal diet of pizza and casseroles.

Isaac is also growing fond of certain things. His toes have recently caught his attention, which is hilarious to watch. If he sees them while he's sitting up he'll jackknife his body in an attempt to put them in his mouth, but he just gets stuck and starts grunting in frustration. He hasn't laughed out loud yet, but he's getting close. One of the funniest games mom can play with him is putting his toes up to his mouth for him. That one gets BIG smiles and squeals.

He's also crazy about his crib aquarium. Any parent whose baby has one of these toys knows how fabulous it is. If Isaac is fussy, sucking on a mimi and watching his aquarium from mom or dad's arms calms him right down.

The aquarium has a spinny red lobster on it. One day last week I heard a click-clicking on the monitor during Isaac's nap. I thought the cat was batting at the blinds again and so I angrily marched to Isaac's room, mumbling profanities about our not-so-beloved pet the whole way. When I got there, there was no kitty to be found. Just a happy but awake baby spinning his red lobster over and over again.

The aquarium has bubbles, fish, music, and soft lights which all turn on when you press a seashell. We recently went to get Isaac up from his nap and found him watching this magical show that he had apparently turned on all by himself. It's happened a few times now, much to Isaac's delight. Who needs mom and dad when you've got dancing fish with just the push of a button?
