Spike is just starting to really learn songs. His most complete and melodic song to date is the "Clean Up Song," which goes, "Clean up, clean up, everybody, everywhere! Clean up, clean up, everybody do your share!" Isaac spontaneously cleans up his toys while singing his own little version, "Peam up, peam up, body, where!"
Lunch time often turns into a little concert. He requests song after song and does the motions while I sing. Today's favorites included the "Oodelally" song from Robin Hood (his favorite movie), which he calls "Obit Hood, sing." After that was "This Little Light of Mine," which Izey communicates by holding up his finger and saying, "Mine." His favorite verse is "hide it under a buschel, NO!" because he gets to yell "NO!" He also likes the third verse, "won't let Satan whoo it out," and blows on his finger and then says "out!" Finally he wanted to sing "Head and Shoulders, Knees and Toes," which sounded more like, "Cheese, toes."
Isaac loves his Wee Sing Bible Songs CD lately. It's old school--Zach's parents got it for Isaac because Zach listened to it when he was little. I use it in the dire emergencies that often occur in the car when stuck in traffic: those times when I am already crabby and Isaac deems it necessary to insistently repeat every single word he knows 300 times to no purpose and no end. Isaac calls the CD "kids" because it's all little kids singing it. He's pretty cute when we put it on. He sits very still and quiet to listen, and applauds and says "yay!" after every short song. After a version of "Jesus Loves Me" the other day, he said, "Jesus. Me." It's true, buddy.
The word he left out from those lyrics reminds me--Isaac can and will repeat pretty much every thing we say these days (including the "shit" I mumbled under my breath this morning when he wrote with a crayon on one of our chairs--oops), but he stubbornly refuses to say the word "love" or any phrase containing it. Whenever we ask him to say "I love you," he usually says, "bu-bye." I guess his refusal will make it all the sweeter when he finally says it.
One sweet thing that I never want to forget happened last weekend when my parents were here. We went out to the car in the morning and it was lightly snowing. Zach was holding a hunky-bunky-chunky-eskimo version of Izey and showing him how to catch snowflakes on his tongue. Isaac lifted his smiling face, raised his arms and exclaimed, "Bubbles!"
Yesterday Zach and I were standing at the kitchen counter next to each other when we both felt a little hand patting our butts. We turned around to see Isaac smiling up at us and saying, "honey. honey."
This boy is learning how to melt his momma's heart purposely, too. He'll come find me, tilt his head to the side and say sweetly, "Hi Momma." Another one that gets me every time is whenever I sneeze or cough he says, "Bless you, Momma." He also blesses himself, "Bless you, Izey." There's something about being blessed by a not-quite-two-year-old that seems even more meaningful.

Sweet Tidbits to Remember

I know that I'm always telling stories about things that Zach and Josh did or said when they were little - sometimes maybe too many stories, or maybe the same story too many times - but your post today made me wish that I had written down more, just as you have done. Precious moments, and oh so precious memories as Izey grows to be a boy and then a man. Very cool post.
ReplyDeleteI love this post. It makes me that much more excited for our little one to arrive!
ReplyDeleteI'm catching up on my blog reading, but I couldn't resist adding this, even though this post isn't your newest.
ReplyDeleteIf it makes you feel any better, Scott and I dated for 3 years before he uttered the word "love" to me. So it doesn't only apply to the little men in our lives...seems to be a man problem all the way around...
Hee, hee!! :) He'll say it when he's comfortable with it, and it will mean even more because he's not just repeating it, he's serious about it. :)
I just couldn't resist commenting, I know how it can be to wonder when that particular word is coming... :)
