Winter Adventure

When I found myself "losing it" with Isaac one too many times this morning, I decided we could all use some exercise, fresh air, and a little adventure. So we bundled up and headed outside. It was about 30 degrees here today.

I'm supposedly running a marathon as a team with Zach on Memorial Day--each of us running half--so I've been trying to actually run the last couple of weeks. Today I pushed the boys in the stroller from our house to the lake, which is exactly 1.2 miles east.

By the time we got there, Anders was asleep, so I let Isaac out of the "bubble" (you know--those plastic stroller covers) and we climbed the frozen mountains of snow and ice along the lake shore. Then we walked down the beach to the little pier and light house, with Isaac singing, "Where are we going? To the lifehouse! Where are we going? To the lifehouse!" a la Dora the Explorer the entire way.

The lake looked amazing with the waves undulating under the sheets of ice. The noise the ice makes is eerily cool. I wasn't dressed for such slow outdoor movement, so by the time we left the beach I was frigid. The run home was a battle. I could only run a couple of blocks before I had to walk again, but I'm still proud of myself for doing it!

Isaac sang made up songs as well as "California Girls" the whole way home and slept great this afternoon. When I tried to get him to tell Zach what we did, he said, "I threw a rock in the hole!" I guess that was what made the biggest impression on him during our little winter adventure.

Tomorrow morning our adventures take us to the Shedd Aquarium! I can't wait!
