Please excuse my ultra syrupy sweet baby talk in the following video. It's so embarrassing to hear yourself speaking "parentese" on camera.
Isaac's got a new trick....
Non-parents don't always understand how exciting it is when your baby does something new. Our friends Tyler and Jenny were visiting from California right after Christmas one evening and laughed at us when we got really geeked about Isaac getting up on his hands and knees. But when you, as a parent, are cheering for your baby to do something, and one day he can't do it and the next day he suddenly can, it's pretty spectacular.
I think kissing his lamby on command is particularly cool because it means that he understands what I'm asking him to do. After I realized that he comprehends the word "kisses," I started talking to Isaac with new gusto. I also started watching my language a little more closely. We don't want Izey's first word to be the same as his father's, which was sh*t. Yes, that's right, Karen, I did just put that on the internet.

On Command

SO cute. I love the open mouth "kisses" and as a fellow parent, I don't think you are a geek!
ReplyDeleteOkay, you pretty much knew I'd have to respond to this one!!! Yes, cyber-world, that was my son's first recognizable word (other than da da), and I accept full responsibility. But please know that the car seats back then (before the earth's crust cooled) were tools of the devil with latches designed to work only after some weeping, gnashing of teeth, and several muttered curses. It was just easy to forget that your impressionable baby was just inches from your face as you wrestled with the d#*n thing! Just another way that you parents of today have it SO MUCH EASIER!!!! (Do I sound defensive and bitter?)
ReplyDeleteThankfully, Isaac's father seems to have risen above those early language limitations and is able to express frustration without turning the air blue!
Karen
